About
Rebecca Martinez (Palak), LM, CPM, IBCLC:
New Mexico Licensed Midwife
I am a parent and New Mexico Licensed Midwife, as well as Certified Professional Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I began my midwifery journey at a high-volume birth center in El Paso, Texas where I attended births as student, staff, and then clinical director. During this time I attended home births and became a parent, which only deepened my knowledge and experience as a midwife and reinforced the importance of compassionate, informed care. I further developed my skills while helping open a new birth center as clinical director. I have had the pleasure of attending over 500 births and of being a preceptor for more than 60 students. I continue to teach midwifery online and mentor students.
There is so much that I love and appreciate about midwifery—the art and the science of it, the transformation that each individual goes through, the sacredness of birth. I am honored to walk alongside each pregnant person, to provide counseling and support, and share in the childbearing cycle from pre-conception through postpartum and beyond.
I believe midwifery care should be family-focused, individualized, and respectful. It is crucial to feel empowered and an active part of the decision-making process throughout such an important time. I strive to provide safe, client-centered care to all genders and family structures. Everyone deserves compassionate care and an empowered birth.
Outside of midwifery, I enjoy hiking with my son, husband, and dogs, seeing live music, rock climbing, mountain biking, and reading.
